The 483rd Bomb Group Archive

The 483rd Bomb Group Archive

Every mission, every aircraft lost, and every man the records name, from the 483rd Bombardment Group's year over Europe, April 1944 to April 1945. Built so that a family can find one man and see everything the records say about him, and add what they know.

5,922 men · 293 aircraft · 215 missions · 88 losses · 274 crews · 354 photographs

What a record holds

His squadron and dates from the morning reports, his ranks and awards with the general-order numbers, the crews he is listed with, the missions his squadron flew while he was there, and, if his aircraft was lost, the Missing Air Crew Report with the eyewitness statements. Every fact names its source.

What it is not

Complete. The 1945 morning reports are not digitised, the machine reading of microfilm misspells names, and where two sources disagree both are kept. The flags on a record say where to be careful.

How to help

Tell us what the record gets wrong. Identify people in photographs. Share dated documents and the stories he told, and say how each may be used. Nothing is shown without your say-so.
