At 1058 hours, on the Bomb Run, aircraft No. 44-6733 was hit by Flak
and Lost two engines. At 1108 hours the Pilot of the distressed aircraft
called his Box Leader, asking for Fighter Escort. He said he was losing
altitude, but would try to make friendly territory. At 1138 hours air-
craft was heard from for the last time. The Pilot reported that he was
over enemy territory at 7,000 feet with all four engines out, and that he
would attempt a crash landing. The Box Leader instructed him to bail out,
and he replied that he would.
