I saw ship piloted by Lt Vonable, before, at the time of
the flak bit, end-all the way dom after the flak hit. The plane was
flying number four position in the high right box. The plane wag on the
bomb run and no bombs had been dyopped by the box when I saw the plane
hit in the tail and rear waist section. Plane had right horizontal sta-
biliser missing and rudder was Plapping out of control. Plane pulled un
out of Cormation, did a slow roll and incediately started a tight spin.
Plane went into a vertical dive and then into a tight spiral. When last
seen plane was in a flat spin d uring which time one man jumped from the
waist parachate partially opened. Plane was very low when last
seen, seeming to havo about three the leand to firc thousand fort

I saw silp plioted by 10 Venable, before and after the flak
burat. Ha was flying numbar four position in the high right boze From
my position it appeared that a shell had strock and burst on the Light
horizontal stabiliter, blowing the control surface to pieces and blowing
off part of the stabilizer. The ship pulled up sharp ly, stalled and began
to spin out of sight.
