Eyewitness statement, page 4 · 4 October 1944
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
At 1411 hours, 4 October 1944 at 4510-1528, I aaw ship 614 feather
its #3 engine (#1 and #2 already feathered) and saw 6 parachutes open.
At 1415 at 4459-1531, I saw 4 more chutes open. His altitude was 9,000
ft. and heading 180°.
Engines #1 and #2 were feathered in the target area and we
stayed with Mas, leaving the Group. Our course was kept over land
as he was planning on bailing out if he could not reach Vis Island
(this was learned by radio contact with 014).
